Chapeau – Fred's Hotel, by Claudette Spence

Chapeau – Hôtel de Fred, 2012
Oil on linen canvas
40.5 x 50.8 cm

Claudette Spence’s passion for painting emerged early in her life. Throughout her schooling, painting the walls of her school was as important to her as attending math or science classes. She honed her craft by studying the great masters and taking art courses. Early on, she chose the Impressionist style. She begins by preparing her canvas with thick layers of oil paint, then brings out her subjects using brushes and palette knives. Claudette Spence has exhibited in Aylmer (Gatineau, Quebec), Ottawa, Pembroke, and Renfrew (Ontario), and has received several awards, including the Public Prize from the Valley Arts Council (2002–2003).
