The MRC Pontiac invites organizations, municipalities, schools, libraries, and artist collectives to submit projects as part of its call for projects “Cultivating Reading,” an initiative aimed at promoting literacy and strengthening cultural vitality throughout the region.
This call for proposals is part of the cultural development agreement with the Government of Quebec and has a budget of $20,000 to support creative, accessible, and unifying projects. Proposals must place reading and literacy at the heart of their activities and encourage participation by all generations.
Did you know that there are several types of literacy?
Beyond reading and writing, literacy encompasses a variety of skills: civic (citizen participation), cultural (understanding traditions and history), family (family learning), financial, digital, health, workplace, and even mathematics. These dimensions are essential for thriving in daily life and in the community.
Some inspiring ideas:
• Intergenerational reading or writing clubs ;
• Writing awareness workshops for parents and children ;
• Digital literacy for seniors ;
• Reading tents in parks ;
• Storytelling and legend evenings, gardens, or word walls.
Conditions and funding:
• Projects carried out in the MRC Pontiac territory ;
• Free activities open to the public ;
• Maximum financial contribution: $5,000 per project (up to 80% of eligible expenses) ;
• A minimum contribution of 20% of the total project cost is required.
Deadline for submitting a project: February 25, 2026, at noon.
Applications must be sent by email to m.gionet@mrcpontiac.qc.ca between January 19 and February 25, 2026.
